Join us for a high summer day of learning and engaging in the gardens and grounds of Menla!
Using the gardens, landscapes and forests as our living laboratory for exploration, we will hone our observation skills, our practical gardening knowledge, and how we weave it all into a living, dynamic and diverse ecology. We will observe the highly cultivated gardens to the wild lands of Pantherkill Valley. In mid August there is gardening maintenance, weeding and mulching, so much harvesting, planting seedlings for fall planting, and wild medicinal harvesting. Lisa Taranto, our Head of Horticulture, will discuss and demonstrate various methods she has found to be successful, and how we use regenerative methods of composting and waste management to support healthy, biological grown gardens and landscapes. Together we will tug on many strings, follow questions and see where it leads. In mid-August, he gardens are at their peak beauty, diversity and production.
Through direct engagement of our physical selves, we will contribute to the ongoing restorative ecology work and gardens at Menla. Through the direct engagement of our intellectual selves, we will deepen our understanding of the science of ecology. And through the direct engagement with our spiritual selves, we will deepen our sense of sacred connectedness and community with all living things.
