Rhythms of Balance: Handpan & Yoga Immersion Experience
With Marina Sobol and Susan DeRyder
November 20 - 23, 2025
Discover a transformative experience with Marina Sobol and Susan DeRyder in this 4-day yoga and handpan retreat.
The retreat’s central themes are alignment and rhythm. To bring these to life, Marina and Susan utilize specific modalities that intricately and beautifully intertwine with each other: yoga, handpan and your our bodies as an instrument
Yoga serves as a pathway to physical and inner alignment, enhancing your practice through breath, movement, and meditation. Meanwhile, the handpan provides a gentle soundscape for immersion and serves as a medium for creative expression through the study of the instrument.
Throughout the retreat, Susan will lead yoga sessions that are suitable for all levels. The morning yoga classes are specifically curated to incorporate the elements; Earth to arrive and ground, Fire to activate, energize and awaken creativity, Water to discover ease, flow and fun in your journey. These classes will leave you feeling supported and inspired for the day ahead. The afternoon Yin Yoga sessions are designed for deep grounding so that you integrate the day’s activities. The Yin Yoga will include breath practices to incorporate the element of air into the arc of your retreat. Susan’s intention is to bring yoga sequencing that complements and supports your time with the Handpan, emphasizing the balance of stability and ease.
An integral component of the retreat is the handpan workshop designed for those encountering the instrument for the first time. Marina will guide us through the history of the handpan, tracing its evolution from its origins to the art form it is today.
Participants learn how to approach the instrument and bring its sound to life through proper technique, starting with simple playing patterns and advancing to collaborative group play.
Handpans are celebrated worldwide for their unique sound and versatility, but each is handmade, making them time-consuming and costly to acquire. This retreat offers a unique opportunity to explore the instrument, as handpans will be provided for your use.
As we explore rhythm and expression through the handpan and movement and balance through yoga, we will also turn inward to discover another powerful instrument—our own body and its unique voice.
The Voice Journey workshop is a form of vocal exploration that invites us to explore somatic awareness, breath, sound, and voice to connect with and uncover the instrument within. No singing experience is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to explore your body as an instrument in a supportive and freeing space.
Join Marina and Susan for a 4-day immersion where yoga and handpan come together to create a unique journey of relaxation, alignment and the exploration of your musical potential.
